PURPOSE: No general consensus has been reached regarding the necessity of postoperative radiation therapy (PORT) and the optimal techniques of its application for patients with chest wall invasion (pT3cw) and node negative (N0) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We retrospectively analyzed the pT3cwN0 NSCLC patients who received PORT because of presumed inadequate resection margin on surgical findings.

PURPOSE: To report the results of curative treatment for patients with tonsil cancer by retrospective analysis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: From Jan. 1995 till Dec. 2000, 27 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the tonsil received curative treatment at Samsung Medical Center. Therapeutic decision was made through multidisciplinary conference, and curative radiation therapy was favored when, (1) the patient's condition was not... |

PURPOSE: To evaluate the results of radiation management on recurrence, survival and prognostic factors of patients with nasopharyngeal cancer.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-nine patients, treated for nasopharyngeal cancer by radiotherapy between January 1984 and June 2000, were retrospectively studied. All patients were followed up for at least 2.5 years. Their median age was 52 years (range 17~78). The histological types were... |

PURPOSE: We report upon a web-based system for Patterns of Care Study (PCS) devised for Korean radiation oncology. This PCS was designed to establish standard tools for clinical quality assurance, to determine basic parameters for radiation oncology processes, to offer a solid system for cooperative clinical studies and a useful standard database for comparisons with other national databases.

PURPOSE: In order to develop the national guide-lines for the standardization of radiotherapy we are planning to establish a web-based, on-line data-base system for laryngeal cancer. As a first step this study was performed to accumulate the basic clinical information of laryngeal cancer and to determine the items needed for the data-base system.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We analyzed the clinical data... |

PURPOSE: In our previous study, we have shown the main cell death pattern induced by irradiation or protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) inhibitors in K562 human myelogenous leukemic cell line. Death of the cells treated with irradiation alone was characterized by mitotic catastrophe and typical radiation-induced apoptosis was accelerated by herbimycin A (HMA). Both types of cell death were inhibited by... |

- Radiation-induced Apoptosis in Developing Fetal Rat Cerebral Cortex
- Woong Ki Chung, Taek Keun Nam, Min Cheol Lee, Sung Ja Ahn, Ju Young Song, Seung Jin Park, Byung Sik Nah
-
Radiat Oncol J. 2003;21(4):315-321.

|
PURPOSE: This study was performed to investigate apoptosis by radiation in the developing fetal rat brain.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fetal brains were irradiated in utero between the 17th and 19th days of fetal life (E17-19) by linear accelerator. A dose of irradiation ranging from 1 Gy to 4 Gy was used to evaluate dose dependency. To test time dependency the rats... |

- Consideration of Surface Dose and Depth of Maximum Dose Using Various Detectors for High Energy X-rays
- Yong Ha Lee, Kyung Ran Park, Jong Young Lee, Ik Jae Lee, Young Woo Vahc, Kang Kyoo Lee

PURPOSE: It is difficult to exactly determine the surface dose and the dose distribution in buildup region of high energy X-rays by using the conventional ion chamber. The aim of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of widely used dosimetry systems to measure the surface dose and the depth of maximum dose (dmax).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We measured the percent... |
